After School Programs

Opening a World of Learning Opportunities
for Students with Special Needs

2008-2009 School Calendar

Our after school programs are on a temporary hold while we search for a new location.

After school programs are designed for typical developing students with a few students who have special needs participating, but our programs at Special LINKS are just the opposite. We design everything around the students who have special needs and then integrate typical developing peers to participate so they can learn more about the day-to-day challenges of children with disabilities. This is essential so they can have a greater understanding, appreciation and acceptance of those who are different. For instance, when we work on homework or do arts and crafts, everyone participates using different techniques and tools. They all made something and at the end of the day everyone has something to say about what they made and can show it off to their family and friends. This creates a common bond that is essential to learning how to build long-term friendships.

Life Skills Training – Our daily activities in this area include, working on self-help skills like brushing teeth and brushing hair, food preparation, socialization skills, how to self-advocate and typical peer integration.

Arts/Crafts/Music – Creativity and the arts are a vital part of stimulating the mind and we incorporate many activities every day that include playing instruments, singing, listening to music, dancing, painting, drawing and sensory integration.
